Morning Briefing: Lindor to Undergo MRI Today
Good morning, Mets fans!
David Peterson allowed just one run over 7 2/3 innings, and Tyrone Taylor crushed a solo home run, but J.T. Realmuto drove a walk-off single against Edwin Díaz to give the Phillies a 2-1 victory. Philadelphia’s magic number to clinch the NL East is down to five. The Mets will see the Phillies for four games at Citi Field later this week.
Francisco Lindor‘s return to the Mets’ lineup was short-lived, as he was removed from the game in the second inning with back discomfort. Lindor will undergo an MRI today. After the game, Lindor said he’s been dealing with back soreness for the last two weeks.
Wild Card Update
In Atlanta, the Dodgers exploded for seven two-out runs in the top of the ninth inning, including three consecutive homers from Teoscar Hernández, Tommy Edman, and Max Muncy, beating the Braves 9-2. The Mets and Braves remain tied for the final NL Wild Card spot.
After Heliot Ramos became the first righty to hit a home run into McCovey Cove, the Padres rallied for two runs in the 10th inning to beat the Giants, 4-3. San Diego now leads the Mets by 3.5 games for the top Wild Card spot.
In a wild game at Chase Field, the Diamondbacks scored three times without recording an out in the bottom of the 10th inning to steal their series finale against the Padres, 11-10. Arizona is two games ahead of the Mets for the second Wild Card spot.

The Mets begin their final homestand of the season today, welcoming the Nationals to Citi Field for three games. Sean Manaea (11-5, 3.35 ERA) will look to continue his magnificent stretch of pitching, facing off against righty Jake Irvin (10-12, 4.19 ERA). The Mets are 8-2 against Washington this season and swept them at Citi Field back in July. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
On MLB Network, Alex Cora said Lindor is his favorite player that isn’t on the Red Sox. Cora cited Lindor’s passion for the game and the fact they are from the same hometown in Puerto Rico.
The Mets have promoted top prospect Jett Williams to Triple-A Syracuse for the final week of the MiLB season. Williams missed most of the season after undergoing wrist surgery, but he racked up three multi-hit games over the last week.
