SEPTEMBER is well and truly underway, meaning most of us are now hunting out the cosy autumn decor.

With darker nights and colder temperatures looming, we’ll all be looking forward to being snug at home.

Which means now is the perfect time to give your home an autumn glow-up.

Luckily, experts have revealed the top colour trends for those looking to get their houses ready for the upcoming season.

Interior designers have revealed that natural and warm earth tones are the new top trend because they give homes a “refreshing autumn feel”.

Ali Edwards, Head of Design at online furniture retailer MADE, also told how these tones are perfect because they “exude a warm, cosy feel”.

It’s about soft green tones this season, with Pinterest’s autumn trends report revealing that searches for ‘green home decor’ are up 2670 per cent.

Searches for ‘forest green house’ have also increased by 220 per cent,

And Ali explains that adding olive green to your decor should be the top priority if you want to give your home an autumn glow-up.

They said: “A fail-safe combination is an olive green paint, styled with accents of white, stone and other natural materials, to create a relaxing space that feels grounded in the natural environment.”

If you want more of a cosy vibe instead of a relaxation haven, then warm, soft tones could be perfect for you.

Tones of terracotta, peach, creams and soft oranges are ideal for creating an earthy and calming environment.

Ali said: “Warm-toned shades exude a warm, cosy feel.

“Rich terracotta or clay shades create a curated atmosphere, while lighter creams, peaches and oatmeal tones offer a refreshing autumnal feeling – helping to make a room feel more spacious and airy.”

Ali has said that the colours have grown in popularity as homeowners shift towards a natural aesthetic.

The expert explained that 2024 has seen people embracing imperfections in interiors.

A total of 83 per cent of homeowners have said they feel that a home should be styled with natural elements in mind, rather than being ‘polished’, ‘perfect’ and ‘refined’.

Alongside the increased interest in creating an earthy and calming environment in the home, ‘rattan furniture’ and ‘rattan’ more generally is on the rise.

Ali explains: “Rattan is showing us it’s here to stay by quickly becoming the new neutral in many people’s homes.

“It has the versatility to blend with other pieces as easily as oak furniture and is the ideal way to add a tactile material into your living space – making it cosy and comfortable.”

So if you’re keen to add rattan touches to your home, Ali has revealed how you can tie them in with the top autumn colours.

They said: “To embrace the 70’s roots of rattan, opt for chairs, coffee tables or dining sets in the style, and dress with softer accents like velvet cushions or a boucle throw.

“These larger pieces are also perfectly complemented by colours such as terracotta, buttery yellows and olive green, or deep coffee hues.

“When it comes to accessorising larger pieces, choose statement shapes in solid colours to avoid the area looking messy, and try to use a range of varying heights and playful shapes to create depth.”

“If you live in pre-furnished accommodation or are not in a position to replace your larger pieces of furniture, there are still ways to embrace the rattan trend by introducing smaller interior features.

“Lighting is a great way to embrace rattan, as it often impacts the whole room by dispersing delicate patterns of light across the space.”
