DONALD Trump has released his own statement after the Secret Service “shot a man with an AK-47” at his Florida golf course.
The former US President, 78, vowed he is “safe and well” after the horror ordeal at the National Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Vehicles were spotted at the Florida golf club on Sunday afternoon following the incident[/caption]Trump, who was at the site on Sunday, said in a statement: “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!
“Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!
“I will always love you for supporting me.”
“Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again. May God bless you,” he added.
Law enforcement sources claim that when Trump was on the links, agents opened fire on a man they saw carrying what appeared to be a gun, The New York Post reports.
Trump was then brought to safety by the Secret Service.
According to sources, the Secret Service observed a suspect on the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach and opened fire after seeing what seemed to be a gun barrel.
The man was later arrested by local police on I-95, the US outlet reported.
A rifle was said to have been discovered in the bushes, according to local law enforcement.
The man’s black vehicle is also impounded as he is questioned by cops in connection with the shooting.
He is believed to be the person with a weapon outside the fence line of the golf course, officials told NBC.
It’s not clear whether the man was on the course or near it, but a Secret Service Agent fired multiple times, according to The New York Post.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung earlier said in a statement: “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time.”
The statement did not give any additional details.
The Secret Service is now investigating the shooting and also confirmed that Trump is safe, The New York Post reports.
