Around the league...
- The Mets are calling up infielder Luisangel Acuña, the former Rangers farmhand and younger brother of Ronald Acuña, Jr..
- In a surprising move, the Giants are promoting 19-year-old Bryce Eldridge to Triple-A after just about two weeks in Double-A. Eldridge made noise in the 2023 MLB Draft as a potential two-way player but has strictly played first base this season in the minors.
- The Rangers have extended the contract of General Manager Chris Young and have promoted him to President of Baseball Operations.
- The Yankees continue to play musical chairs with their rotation, shifting Marcus Stroman to the bullpen so Nestor Cortés can remain as a starter.
- Big news in the baseball blogosphere: Fangraphs is moving to a metered paywall system that will provide readers with 10 free articles each 30 days before prompting you to pay to read more. If you read this column regularly, you know Fangraphs is a consistent source of quality content. If you are able, please contribute so we can continue consuming their great work!
- Dan Szymborski at Fangraphs makes the case that the “Sophomore Slump” is just a myth.
- It seems that Oakland has finally developed a star. Michael Rosen looks under the hood to see what Lawrence Butler is doing right.
- Jeffrey Paternostro at Baseball Prospectus laments the slow death of the traditional scout in baseball. ($)
Anders’ picks...
- There are farming prospect lists? There’s a whole world out there that I’m unaware of.
