Selena Gomez is more than a multi-hyphenate singer and actress — she is also the founder of her own business.

The Only Murders in the Building actress began working as young as 9 years old when she became a regular on Barney & Friends. At 15, her career took off when she landed the lead role of Alex Russo on Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place.

From there, Gomez expanded her singing career, forming her own band, Selena Gomez & The Scene, before becoming a solo singer and focusing on her acting career. Since then, Gomez has continued to push herself, growing from a Disney actress and singer to an Emmy- and Grammy-nominated star.

Per Bloomberg's estimations, Gomez's net worth is $1.3 billion. She joined just four other musicians to break into the billionaires club — Jay-Z, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen — and is the youngest female vocalist.

Bloomberg reported that the majority of her wealth — 81% — has been amassed through Rare Beauty, with her tours contributing to less than 5% of her money and her album and record sales providing less than 2%.

In addition to music and her company, Gomez is also a prolific actress, having been nominated for a Golden Globe and Emmy for her role in Only Murders in the Building. She is also an executive producer on the project and reportedly earns "at least" $6 million per season.

Gomez is continuing her work as a producer with her upcoming project, Disney's Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, a remake of the show that made her a household name.

After launching in 2020, Rare Beauty skyrocketed in worth due to the success of its products, especially a blush that went viral in 2022 on TikTok. Per TIME, the brand's sales went up 100% from 2021 to 2022 and 200% the next year, with sales hitting $400 million from May 2023 to 2024.

According to Business of Fashion, as of March 2024, Rare Beauty was worth around $2 billion. In 2023, Rare Beauty's most successful product — its $23 Soft Pinch Liquid Blush — earned $70 million alone.

What has Selena Gomez said about donating to charity?

Prioritizing mental health and giving back to initiatives that have programming for increasing positivity is important to Gomez, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has been open about her struggles with depression. To that end, the "Single Soon" singer contributes 1% of her cosmetics sales to Rare Beauty's charity branch, Rare Impact Fund, which donates money to mental health foundations.

The fund, which has a goal of raising $100 million, has raised $16 million so far which it has donated to 26 organizations spanning five continents in support of mental health initiatives, per its website.

The inspiration for the cause came from Gomez's own mental health struggles, she shared during her first annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit in October 2023.

“I struggled with the world inside my head for a long time and I felt lost and I felt hopeless at times. And in 2020, I received my diagnosis of bipolar disorder. And to be honest, everything quickly changed,” Gomez said. “I actually got the knowledge and the answers that I had been desperate for for so long. And understanding that obviously makes me become more aware of it and I'm less afraid than I used to be.” 

“With that knowledge, I could seek out the support I needed to be myself, to find my joy again,” she continued. “And tonight I'm very proud to say that I have and I've been working really hard every day and I'm so happy just to be alive and to be here with you guys today.”

What has Selena Gomez said about her wealth?

In May 2024, Gomez told TIME that she made sure to rely on her managers and lawyers when it came to understanding Rare Beauty's finances and running the business so that she could focus on the impact fund and the product development.

“I will admit it overwhelms me sometimes. I have this weird thing in my head where if I focus on the numbers, I’ll lose whatever it is that made Rare Beauty Rare Beauty,” she said. “I never wanted it to be about making a lot of money and that’s it."

Regardless of how successful she becomes, however, Gomez has said that she's always pushing for what's next while remaining grateful for all that she has.

"You're not meant to say, ‘Once I get there, I'll have it all,' " the "Hands to Myself" singer told E! News in 2016 of her future goals. "I think that's the biggest lesson I've needed to learn, is how to be present in the moment, and to know that I'm always going to strive for something."
