Fatal Dutchess County crash involving stolen car under investigation
HYDE PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- State police are investigating a fatal crash in Hyde Park that involved a reportedly stolen vehicle. The crash happened on Tuesday morning near Creek Road.
On September 10 around 4:50 a.m., Hyde Park Police responded to the Violet Avenue Dunkin Donuts for the report of a stolen 2015 Honda Pilot. Further investigation led to officers locating the car nearby on Violet Avenue.
Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as Sean Adams, 30, of Hyde Park, refused to comply and drove off in the stolen vehicle. The ensuing pursuit carried onto Cottage Road and Creek Road, where Adams lost control of the car and crashed into a tree, resulting in the car bursting into flames.
Firefighters with the Roosevelt and Fairview Fire Departments attempted to save Adams from the flames, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. State police were called to the area of the crash and have since become the lead agency in the ongoing investigation.
