Topeka man indicted on 333 felony counts after allegedly falsifying court documents
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A former Shawnee County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) civilian employee has been indicted for falsifying records.
In late June, 2024, the SCSO became aware of a 52-year-old civilian process server from Topeka "had possibly falsified certain records related to the service of court documents." The man was employed for six months and was immediately placed on administrative leave and removed from all job duties, according to the sheriff's office.
According to a spokeswoman with the Shawnee County District Court, the former employee allegedly falsified certain documents and records related to service of court process in 643 documents from Dec. 18, 2023 through June 10, 2024.
The sheriff's office started a criminal investigation into the man's actions. Detectives and staff officers reviewed the former employee's work history with the agency, including all activity for every day he was employed.
In July, 2024 the man was terminated from the sheriff's office. Notifications of the findings of the investigations were made to the Shawnee County District Court. Results of the criminal investigation were then sent forward to the Shawnee County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
A grand jury in Shawnee County indicted the man on 333 total felony counts of perjury and making false information. A warrant was issued, and at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 11, the man was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.
According to the news release, the SNCO is working with court officials to remediate any issues related to this case and court documents previously assigned to the former employee's service. The Shawnee County District Court will notify all parties whose cased were involved in the investigation.
