Arsenal star limps off during international game – Doubt for Spurs clash
The North London derby is just around the corner, but Arsenal look set to go into the game without one of their most influential players after he went off injured in an international match this evening.
Martin Odegaard blow for Arsenal
All clubs fear the international break and the impact it could have on their plans if players come back from their national team duties with an injury.
Arsenal’s worst fears have now come true, as their captain, Martin Odegaard, has been hit with a big injury blow ahead of the weekend’s action in the Premier League.
In a clip from tonight’s game between Norway and Austria in the Nations League shared by former footballer-turned YouTuber, Jan Aage Fjortoft, Odegaard can be seen being helped off the field after suffering an ankle injury.
Fjortoft tweeted: “Worrying scenes at Ullevaal Stadium. Seems that our captain Martin Odegaard twisted his ankle. Just had to leave the pitch, unfortunately.”
The extent of the injury is unknown at this stage, but it doesn’t look good for Odegaard based on the footage. Arsenal face Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, September 15.
Key players missing
Odegaard aside, Arsenal are already facing something of a crisis heading into this weekend’s game. They will be without Declan Rice, who is suspended following his controversial red card against Brighton in the last game.
The Gunners will also have new signing Mikel Merino out injured, while Riccardo Calafiori has also been sent home from international duty after sustaining a knock on his calf playing for Italy.
Spurs Web Opinion
I refuse to get my hopes up because things never go to plan for us, but the fact that Arsenal are missing their three strongest midfielders has to give us the advantage for Sunday. We must make the most of this and really assert our dominance in the middle of the park.
