Captain Marks Day 2024
The highlight of the Mens Calendar took place on Saturday and Friday with Captain Mark McAleers prize taking place.
Keith and his staff had the course in pristine condition. With approximately 250 players over the two days taking part the competition was fierce. In tough conditions of wind and showers the scoring was of a high standard.
With burgers from our BBQ and drinks at the half way point and then ice cream at the 7th we were all well looked after.
The dinner was a sumptuous affair and congratulations to Ali, Olivia and Liz and the rest of the catering team on a wonderful meal.
Paul, Jackie and all the bar staff team looked after everything in the hydration department.
Thanks to Davey and all the lads in the pro shop for their work over the two days and in preparation for the day.
Also all the work by our juniors acting as sponsors was greatly appreciated.
Thanks also to Nick and the rest of the staff in presenting the clubhouse and surrounds so well.
Finally thank you to Jim Melody and Jenny for all their work on the administration side.
These days don’t happen without everyone pulling together.
Captain Mark was introduced to the dinner by President John Langrell and the night was MC’d by Vice Captain Paul Cahill.
Entertainment was provided by Paul Howard of Ross O’Carroll Kelly fame and despite him not finding any “Rock” students (they kept very quiet) to poke fun at he made everybody laugh. Further entertainment was provided by our musically “talented” members led and encouraged by Killian “killer” O’Dowd.
So onto the winner. With a marvelous score of 41 points Alvin Gunning was announced as the winner to a standing ovation. In what was obviously a proud moment you could see how much it meant to Alvin by listening to his speech. A very popular winner indeed.
In 2nd place and only a point behind was Alan Byrne and in 3rd again only another point adrift was John Darcy.
A new initiative this year was the introduction of a Captains Prize to the intermediate members and this was held on Friday morning. This was won by Daragh Browne with a brilliant score of 42 points ahead of Conor McAleer on 38.
