Metro brothers remember parents killed in tragic car crash
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KFOR) — An Oklahoma City couple was killed after a semi collided with their car, leaving behind three sons including one who relied on his parents as his caregiver.
Javier Ocampo and Reyna Pallares were driving down US-81 on June 14th when they were hit by a semi truck.
Debris and parts of their car are still scattered across the highway.
Their three sons, Jessie, Matthew and Emmy Pallares are still processing the news.
"You just instantly get that feeling in your stomach that something's wrong," said Jessie. "It's just the worst feeling in the world."
Emmy was born physically disabled and requires a wheelchair and routine medical care, he spent the most time with their parents.
"We have to adjust to the new normal of being able to go forward and take care of him," said Matthew.
Jessie and Matthew said they are now stepping up and will do whatever is needed for Emmy.
"Helping our brother especially is one of the main aspects that keeps us going day to day," said Matthew.
Reyna and Javier immigrated from Mexico and worked hard to create a better life for their family. Even leaving signs of that hard work right here in Oklahoma City.
Javier helped build the iconic sky dance bridge.
"Every Oklahomans' been there, seen it and his work," said Jessie.
Reyna taught children's English at OKC's Linwood Elementary.
"She touched so many lives, so many kids," said Matthew.
The three brothers are now sticking together to forever honor their parents.
"Obviously what our parents would have wanted us to do, is to be strong, keep going forward," said Matthew.
The family also lost their car that was used as main transportation for Emmy and his wheelchair.
