McVitie’s fans call for ‘top tier’ discontinued chocolate bar last seen on shelves years ago to make comeback
MCVITIE’S fans are out in force calling for an iconic axed chocolate bar to make a comeback.
Snack makers often discontinue products to make way for newbies and to match customer demand.
But one dropped by McVitie’s years ago is still evidently in the hearts of shoppers who want it to make a return to shelves.
McVitie’s said the Club Fruit flavour, combining currants, biscuit and milk chocolate, had been axed “a few years ago” in a X post last year.
The company said customers can still get their hands on the orange, mint and salted caramel flavours.
But some shoppers are still desperate for the fruit flavour to return to retailers and supermarkets across the UK.
Posting on the Discontinued and Nostalgic Snacks and Blasts from the Past Facebook page yesterday, one said it was a “shame” the iconic bar had been dropped by McVitie’s.
The post has already notched up over 400 likes and almost 100 comments from fans of the bar calling for it to be reintroduced.
One said: “They were the best! Not sure why they stopped making them.”
Another chimed in: “These were the best. Why they stopped them I’ll never know!”
A third commented: “Fruit Clubs really need to return.”
A fourth added “I don’t know why they stopped them and kept the others” while a fifth said “top tier these were”.
We have asked McVitie’s what year it discontinued the Club Fruit bar and will update this story when we have heard back.
We also asked if the snack company plans to bring the iconic bar back for shoppers.
It comes after McVitie’s brought back a discontinued biscuit after 20 years, with shoppers sharing mixed reviews.
The white chocolate digestive was first released as a limited edition sweet back in 2005, but was promptly dropped from shelves.
But they made a comeback in June last year, with shoppers able to snap them up from Sainsbury’s, Co-op, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons.
Happy Faces also made a comeback last May after being axed in 2015, with eagle-eyed customers spotting them in Asda stores.
McVitie’s said the biscuits, which have jam and cream in the middle complete with a smiley face on top, would be rolled out to more retailers.
Other snack makers have been dropping items in recent months, with no sign they’ll be making their way back on to shelves any time soon.
Walkers left customers devastated after confirming a range of crisps Brits “absolutely love” had been discontinued.
The crisp giant revealed Walkers Stax are no longer available in the UK.
Meanwhile, Tesco angered customers last week after confirming a popular McDonald’s dupe had been dropped from shelves.
A shopper messaged Tesco on X to ask whether the gluten-free mozzarella sticks were axed from the shelves.
And in a blow to coeliacs across the UK, the UK’s biggest supermarket said it had indeed dropped the savoury snack from its offering.
