Giles, Mardula, & Peck set to become full time Kings
The Kings are thrilled to announce the signings of forwards Brendan Giles (05′), Michael Mardula (07′), and Tre Peck (07′). All of whom suited up for the Kings throughout the course of last season.
Giles was on the opening day roster last season and played in the teams first 17 games and registered two assists in those games. Despite not hitting the scoresheet as much as he would’ve liked Giles showed what he was capable of on many occasions and made a great early impression. After his stint with the Kings he went back to his home state of Connecticut to attend Brunswick School and receive his diploma. He would regain his scoring touch during the high school season by scoring 39 times in 34 games to go along with 29 assists while earning a NCAA commitment to the University of Connecticut at the end of the season. “We are very excited to have Brendan return to Powell River this season” says Assistant G.M. Stephan Seeger Jr. “Brendan is a shifty, creative forward with a great work ethic who can play in a lot of situations for us. He showed glimpses last season of what he is capable of and we believe he is on track to continue his upward trajectory. He had a great finish to the season in prep school and we are very excited to see his progress carry over to a full BCHL season.”
Mardula is from Lemont Illinois and suited up in 4 games as an affiliate during the month of December. He made an immediate impact scoring in his first game against the Surrey Eagles. “His positive energy, eagerness, and passion for the game of hockey is something we’re excited to add to the locker room this year” adds Seeger Jr. “Mikey has a unique way of finding the scoresheet wherever he goes, and always puts forth an effort to gain knowledge to improve his game. We are extremely excited to to add him to our roster and can’t wait to see what he brings to the team for his rookie season.” Mardula played 44 games with the Little Ceasars 16U AAA team in Detroit last season and scored 19 goals and added 25 assists.
Tre Peck’s journey with the Kings started during the preseason last year by playing in the teams first two games where he scored twice. After his brief stint he went home to Minnesota to play for Totino Grace High School where he was an assistant captain. He was a goal per game player with 26 goals in as many games plus he added 19 helpers to lead his team in scoring. He returned to Powell River towards the end of the season for another look and like Mardula made a quick impression in his first game scoring on his first ever junior hockey shift. Peck may not be the biggest player on the ice standing and 5 feet 7 inches, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in other areas of his game according to Seeger Jr. “Tre his a feisty, fearless, and speedy forward who finds ways to be effective every shift. He is a hard nosed player who has a very good understanding of the game at such a young age. We have already seen him fit in very well with his future teammates and we believe the system compliments his style of play. Adding Tre is a great fit and we couldn’t be happier to call him a King this year.”
