A LONGTIME lorry driver has made his dream come true by quitting and buying a quaint little pub to pull cheap pints for the people.
For 25 years, Lee Cunningham spent his days embarking on long hauls across the country – but eventually he decided to quit.
Lee resigned in January and spent some time scouring around for the ideal boozer.
Popping up for sale was The Sandringham on Paragon Street, Hull and Lee wasn’t going to let the opportunity slip, Hull Live reported.
According to reviews the watering hole is a bit of a squeeze but offers a sense of quirk that gives it character.
The new landlord Lee did the joint up and reopened it to punters just weeks ago.
The ex-lorry driver isn’t new to running a business – he’s owned two cleaning companies previously – but it’s his first time as a boozer boss.
As a bonus, the pub is a free house – not owned by any companies – so Lee can pick the beers and set the prices.
To compete with neighbouring boozers he’s decided to be a man of the people, offering a pint of Carling for just £3.10.
For context, that price is lower than the cheapest Wetherpoons pint in the land.
Lee has classics on tap – Coors, Estrella and Guinness – as well as real ales swapped around every three weeks.
The new publican told Hull Live: “You can’t get much smaller than this.
“I wasn’t expecting a city centre pub but for the size of it, it’s ideal for me really. It’s all new to me but so far, so good.
“It’s back and better than how it was and the positivity from customers has been amazing. And even people who haven’t been here before have said ‘You’re doing a good job.'”
The upgrades are still on the way, too.
Formerly decorated with stuffed dead animals, Lee had them removed and will bring in historical paintings and photos of Hull instead.
Two new TVs mean the Euros, Wimbledon and soon the Olympics can all be watched at Lee’s pub.
The boozer is quiet during the week, Lee said, but is busy on Friday and Saturday nights with the pub’s ex-DJ Barry returning to spin the decks.
Lee keeps the party pumping until 2am on those nights if a big crowd is drawn in.
Cheapest Spoons pint revealed
PUNTERS can pay just £3.19 for pints at the cheapest Spoons pub in the land, bucking the trend of beer-flation.
Office for National Statistics data shows the price of a pint has skyrocketed 28 per cent across the nation since 2019, or an average hike of £1.03 per beer.
But coming to the rescue are a series of Spoons boozers still selling pints for pennies.
At the top of the apex is The Church House in Wath-upon-Dearne, South Yorkshire, where pints set set punters back only £3.19.
It was once a 19th-century house declared sacred by the Archbishop of York.
At those pint prices, today’s beer drinkers surely agree.
