Nigella Lawson and Russell T Davies have also celebrated the Conservatives’ defeat.

Former Countdown star Vorderman trumpeted the use of tactical voting, saying it contributed to the defeat of high profile Conservatives including former Prime Minister Liz Truss.

She wrote on X: “BREAKING Liz Truss lost her seat due to Tactical voting and YOU.

“She lost by 630 votes BUT A massive c 4,500 postcodes in South West Norfolk constituency were typed into our website http://stopthetories.vote during this GE campaign.

“7 times more than her vote loss. I can tell you around 1.75 MILLION POSTCODES have been typed into http://stopthetories.vote during the general election campaign.

“Lots of analysis to come. So many seats where this has happened.”

Lily Allen posted ‘thank f***’ on X following the result.

Lawson also appeared to celebrate Truss’s defeat in her South West Norfolk constituency, where she lost her seat to Labour’s Terry Jermy in one of the biggest shocks of election night.

The celebrity chef tweeted a cartwheel emoji, a lettuce emoji and another cartwheel emoji.

Truss came to be associated with a lettuce after a newspaper livestreamed footage of the vegetable to see if it would last longer than her tenure in No 10.

Doctor Who showrunner Davies appeared particularly pleased by the ousting of veteran Conservative MP Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg.

In a shock moment, Truss was ousted in Norfolk South West – which was considered a safe Conservative seat.

Labour‘s Terry Jeremy won the seat with 11,847 votes, narrowly edging out the former PM who racked up 11,217.

Defence Secretary Shapps and Commons Leader Penny Mordaunt – who had been expected to throw their hats in the ring for leader – were also among eleven Cabinet ministers to have been ousted in the election.

Labour stormed into Downing Street after securing the required 326 seats, while the Tories have taken a battering across the UK.

Shapps suffered the first shock loss of the night as he was defeated by Labour in Welwyn Hatfield.

Mordaunt looked crestfallen as she lost her Portsmouth North seat to Labour’s Amanda Martin by just 780 votes.

And Tory heavyweight Rees-Mogg was stunned by a humiliating defeat in Bath this morning.

In one flurry shortly before 4am Education Secretary Gillian Keegan, Tory Deputy Chairman Jonathan Gullis and Chief Whip Simon Hart all lost their seats.

Justice Secretary Alex Chalk and Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer were also ousted.

And Treasury minister Bim Afolami was unseated in Hitchin by Labour.

Michelle DonelanDavid Davies, Victoria Prentis and Mark Harper were also culled in a Tory bloodbath.

Another losing out to Labour was Minister of State for Veterans’ Affairs Johnny Mercer in Plymouth Moor View.

UK Minister of State for Northern Ireland Steve Baker lost his Wycombe seat to Labour’s Emma Reynolds.

However, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt narrowly kept his seat in South West Surrey, and PM Rishi Sunak held Richmond and Northallerton.

Home Secretary James Cleverley kept hold of his seat in Braintree, with 35.5 per cent of the vote share.

The Brexiteer was defeated by Labour’s Dan Norris in the new North East Somerset and Hanham constituency.

Davies shared the viral photo of Sir Jacob lounging in the front bench of the House Of Commons and wrote: “At last,” adding a celebration emoji.

He added the location of the post as: “New World.”

Filmmaker David Furnish, the husband of Sir Elton John, commented: “Bye Felicia,” on the post.

Former footballer Gary Neville also seemed gratified by Sir Jacob’s defeat, also tweeting the photo of him in repose on the front bench.

He wrote: “Morning,” adding the red rose emoji, which is the symbol of the Labour Party.

Labour WIN landslide election as Keir Starmer says ‘today we start the next chapter’

SIR Keir Starmer has declared “we did it” and said today “we start the next chapter” as his party won a landslide election.

In his victory speech, the Labour leader said the UK was again experiencing the “sunlight of hope”.

Tory leader Rishi Sunak conceded defeat after a “sobering” night for his party which saw a record eight Cabinet minister lose their seats.

It is understood Sir Keir received a telephone call shortly before 4am when he was in a car with his wife Victoria on the way to Labour’s victory rally.

In Tate Modern’s iconic turbine hall, Sir Keir said the country could now “get its future back”.

He told jubilant activists “we did it”, adding: “Change begins now.”

Sir Keir said: “You campaigned for it, you fought for it, you voted for it, and now it has arrived – change begins now. It feels good, I have to be honest.

“Four-and-a-half years of work changing the party, this is what it is for – a changed Labour Party ready to serve our country, ready to restore Britain to the service of working people.

“And across our country, people will be waking up to the news, relief that a weight has been lifted, a burden finally removed from the shoulders of this great nation.

“And now we can look forward, walk into the morning, the sunlight of hope, pale at first but getting stronger through the day, shining once again, on a country with the opportunity after 14 years to get its future back.”
