People are just realising how the cult ‘Bum Bum’ cream is supposed to be pronounced & say they ‘need an explanation’
IT’S taken the beauty world by storm, but are you pronouncing Sol de Janeiro’s ‘Bum Bum Cream’ all wrong?
Shoppers have been left shocked at discovering the correct pronunciation behind the cult classic product.
The brand took to Instagram to clear up any confusion when it comes to the name of the salted caramel and pistachio scented product.
They revealed: “When we say BUM BUM, you say CREAM! Pronounced as ‘boom boom.’”
Many people were left amazed and admitted they had been saying it wrong for years.
One person wrote: “Always gonna call it bum bum cream, lol sorry, this is my fave lotion!”
Another added: “can I get an explanation on why you decided to pronounce it boom boom when it’s spelt bum bum why not just spell it boom boom?”
A third commented: “Oh yay I learned something new!”
According to the website, the Sol de Janeiro brand was “named after the ‘Sun of January,’ when the sun hits its highest point during Brazilian summers.”
However, the cream also comes with a pretty hefty price tag, currently retailing for an astronomical £28.80 at Boots.
But it claims to have “skin-tightening” benefits.
The product description reads: “A fast-absorbing body cream with an addictive scent and a visibly tightening, smoothing formula that adds a hint of shimmer to skin.
“Get that coveted Brazilian Bum Bum Cream effect and experience absolute body joy with this luxurious cream.

Thankfully, there are numerous dupes on the market, including Poundland’s £2 version.

Celebs such as Selena Gomez and Hillary Duff are counted among its loyal fanbase, and it has spiked in popularity on social media.
The company was founded by Heela Yang, who had previously worked as a director of marketing at Clinique and as a manager at Lancôme.
Korean-American Heela and her husband moved from New York City to Brazil in 2008, and she was inspired to make the product after falling in love with their inclusive beach culture.
In 2021, L’Occitane Group acquired a majority stake in Sol de Janeiro, and valued the company at US$450million (£350million).
