I tested the next gen of liquid blusher and one cheap option won me over
CREAM blushers have been a cornerstone of my makeup routine for years.
Now the next gen of liquid blushers promise easier blending plus glow. This week, three new launches get put to the test.
Budget
REVLON Illuminance Gel Serum Blush, £9.99 for 11ml, boots.com.
Highly pigmented, but the formula is packed with moisturising ingredients that mean you get more time to work with the product before it dries.
Great if you are intimidated by liquid blush and worried about getting the placement right.
It also means the pigments do not stick to any dry areas and end up looking patchy, and the finish is the perfect amount of glowy without being glittery or oily.
Do not be fooled by the dinky packaging. It is small but mighty and actually contains the most amount of product.
With style and substance, it is by far my favourite.
Mid-range
SCULPTED By Aimee Liquid Lights Blush, £18 for 7.5ml, sculptedby aimee.co.uk.
Part blush, part highlight, the finish is billed as dewy but I would definitely go as far to say it is shimmery.
I wore it on a recent holiday during the evening, and it looked great.
But I think the glow would be too much for my oily skin every day.
I really loved the doe-foot applicator, because it is much easier to control where and how much you are applying.
So I will definitely keep using it but mostly during an evening when I want the extra glow.
I imagine it will really come into its own in the winter, and a little goes a long way, so I will definitely have product left by then.
Luxury
HUDA Beauty Blush Filter, £24 For 4.5ml, cultbeauty.co.uk
With a semi-matte finish and plenty of shimmer particles, this is definitely the most glam of the three despite the sheer colour.
The more matte finish was virtually weightless on my skin, which I loved.
It took more product than I expected to get a decent flush, but once you get there it’s really easy to over-do it.
It is also quite hard to blend out to a natural flush before it dries down, so I’d say this is best for those familiar with liquid blushers rather than people trying them for the first time, or you might be put off.
