Motorway closed after lorry crashes into bridge

A section of the M5 near Taunton in Somerset has closed and traffic is being held after a lorry crashed into a bridge.
There are severe delays on the motorway between J25 for the A358 Taunton to J24 for the A38 Taunton Road.
Avon and Somerset Police wrote on X that one person in a lorry was injured and trapped after crashing into a bridge.
Traffic on the northbound carriageway is being held as a result, although one lane has now reopened.
The southbound side was held briefly to allow for the air ambulance to land, but has since been released.
Traffic monitoring website Inrix wrote: ‘M5 in both directions blocked, long delays due to accident, a lorry involved from J25 A358 (Taunton) to J24 A38 Taunton Road (Bridgwater South).

‘The road has been blocked since around 06:50am after a vehicle collided with a bridge.
‘Congestion to the A38 through North Petherton as drivers divert away from the closure.’
