Report: Tottenham are set to appoint Southampton man to fill key staff position
According to The Athletic, Tottenham are set to appoint Southampton’s Jack Chapman as their new head of academy recruitment at Hotspur Way.
Chapman currently holds the same job title at newly-promoted Southampton, with the Saints long since renowned for having one of the most impressive academies in England.
Tottenham currently have a good case for boasting the most exciting crop of academy youngsters in the country, having just won Premier League 2 in sensational style.
The likes of Jamie Donley, Will Lankshear and Tyrese Hall have been standout performers this season, not to mention youngsters like Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips who have shone out on loan.
Tottenham to hire Jack Chapman as head of academy recruitment
It seems Tottenham want to keep the ball rolling by bringing Chapman in this summer in order to scout the next wave of talented youngsters to add to the Hotspur Way academy.
While Spurs are famous for having brought Harry Kane through their academy ranks, Oliver Skipp has been the only player to make the jump from youth squad to first-team regular in the past five years.
Chapman is unlikely to be Tottenham’s only new hire this summer, with assistant head coach Chris Davies having swapped N17 for Birmingham City this week, leaving a vacant first-team position for Ange Postecoglou to fill.
Spurs Web Opinion:
It’s about time Tottenham invested more time and effort into actually bringing academy youngsters through into the first team.
Every single other Big Six team hands first-team minutes to youngsters, which is why we have seen the rise of people like Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Harvey Elliott, Phil Foden, Conor Gallagher, Bukayo Saka and more.
