Grant Scott Prepares for Rangers
Grant Scott spoke ahead of our trip to Broadwood on Sunday as we return to action in the SWPL as we face off against Rangers.
Looking back on our hard fought 2-0 victory against Partick Thistle a fortnight ago, a result which saw us put some distance between our nearest challengers in the league, the gaffer reiterated that he was impressed with the result.
“I thought we were good in the game; not as good as we can be, but we were grateful to win the game against a difficult opponent.
“We certainly had a couple of injuries before, so the squad is a little bit fresher now. Perhaps the break has helped us – but the momentum and winning games is key to what we’re trying to achieve.”
Highlighting the return of Katie Fraine and Abbie Ferguson, the manager also said he was impressed with the performances of both after a period out of the squad.
“It’s great to have the girls back. We had to give Abbie the right time to recover from her concussion, and I was happy to see her energy and drive back on the pitch. Katie at the other end gives us that security. Nina Wilson has done well and she’s competing well for that number one spot.
“Ultimately Katie’s fit and we had to get her back and see if she could get through ninety minutes. It’s now between the 'keepers to fight for the jersey!”
Scott also issued an update on the fitness of further players in his squad ahead of tomorrow’s match in Glasgow.
“Eilidh Adams has had surgery this week. She’ll now rehab until the end of the season and be back for pre-season. Michaela McAlonie has had a wee injury, but it’s not as bad as we first thought so she’s working with the medical staff with her rehab.
“Rosie Livingstone will be back on the bench this weekend, ahead of schedule. That’s another positive – another player who gives us real energy and dynamics. Siobhan Hunter is also back after a slight calf strain.”
“Rachael Boyle continues her rehab. I don’t want to put too much pressure on her, but we’re hoping she gets back this season.”
On Sunday’s match against Rangers, our third encounter in our previous 4 matches, Scott said he expects his side to tweak one or two tactics.
The Glasgow side were in action last week, lifting the Sky Sports Cup after a 4-1 victory against Partick Thistle.
“Going into this one as the away side, it’s not going to change our mentality. I’ve spoken to some of the senior players, and we’re not going to change our style. There are one or two tweaks that we’ll make to try and nullify Rangers this time, but we know how difficult a job it is!”
