WEST HAM face Arsenal in the Premier League this Sunday. The Hammers won the reverse fixture at the Emirates in December.

West Ham vs Arsenal betting preview
West Ham fans must be some of the most frustrated supporters in the Premier League this season.
To the casual observer, they’re doing fine. They sit seventh in the table and are safely through to the last 16 of the Europa League.
But then you see results like the recent 2-2 draw away at Sheffield United, and the 1-0 FA Cup 3rd Round replay defeat to Bristol City, and wonder how that happens?
West Ham also lost 5-1 at Anfield in the EFL Cup quarter-final. They followed up, what was an appalling defensive performance, with a 2-0 home win over Manchester United and a 2-0 away win at Arsenal.
More recently, the team has hit the buffers. They’ve only managed three draws and one defeat in the Premier League since the start of 2024.
The draws have been against Brighton, Sheffield United and Bournemouth. And last Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford would have been hugely disappointing.
But again, what might have been had some of those chances been taken? West Ham had 22 attempts on goal, compared to Manchester United’s 12.
In a word, frustrating.
As for Arsenal, they must be buzzing. Their 3-1 win over Liverpool last Sunday has opened up the title race again, and put the Gunners at the centre of it.
Mikel Arteta has Bukayo Saka back amongst the goals again, and his team are now on a Premier League-winning run of three.
With an away fixture at Burnley to follow next Saturday, Mikel Arteta will want the maximum six points available from these two matches before his attention again turns to the Champions League. And on current form, the Gunners look set to get them.
West Ham vs Arsenal key stats
- Since the start of the 2018/19 season, the two teams have met 12 times in league and cup, with West Ham winning three times, twice in the league, and once in the cup.
- The Gunners have beaten West Ham on seven of these occasions, with two matches ending in draws.
- West Ham has won the two most recent fixtures. They defeated Arsenal 3-1 at the London Stadium in the EFL Cup on 1st November. And they defeated Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates in their most recent fixture on 28th December.
- West Ham have played 11 times at home this season. They’ve won five, drawn four and lost two.
- On the road, Arsenal has played 11, winning six, drawing two and losing three.
- West Ham had 48% possession in their 3-0 defeat to Manchester United. They were wasteful in front of goal, having 22 attempts, with just three on target.
- When beating Liverpool 3-1 last Sunday, the Gunners only had 42% of the possession. Despite this, they still managed 15 shots at goal, with seven on target. Liverpool managed ten shots, with one on target.
- West Ham are still without Michail Antonio and Lucas Paqueta. Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola is likely to join them on the sidelines after being subbed off with a concussion at Old Trafford.
- Arsenal should have Gabriel Jesus available for selection, and also Takehiro Tomiyasu, who has returned from the Asia Cup.
West Ham vs Arsenal best bets
Our best bets for West Ham vs Arsenal are below. The odds we use are from the best sportsbooks per our expert reviews. Odds in the bettings tips are also subject to change.
Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals (Sky Bet)
After creating a mammoth 22 chances at Old Trafford last Saturday, surely West Ham have to find the net at home to the Gunners.
It’s also hard to not see Arsenal scoring, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see them score more than one.
Back both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at 11/10 with Sky Bet
Bukayo Saka to score anytime (bet365)
I was slightly torn about whether to go for Saka to score anytime or Leandro Trossard to score or assist at any time. But when looking at the stats, I saw Saka has scored three in his last four, compared to Trossard, who has two goals in his last three, but no assists.
I could have gone for either. But the main reason I went for Saka is because he plays more minutes. Saka will get more opportunities than his Belgian teammate, who has only been a late substitute in his last two appearances.
Back Bukayo Saka to score anytime at 15/8 with bet365
Kalvin Phillips to be shown a card (Spreadex)
This is simply a hunch bet. Kalvin Phillips has barely kicked a ball all season, so I expect him to kick something when his team faces the Gunners.
Phillips didn’t get his West Ham career off to a great start against Bournemouth, with his error leading to the Cherries’ goal on his debut.
So, in a home London Derby, I fully expect him to be firing and wanting to make a statement to the fans. The tackles will be flying in, and Phillips could well find himself in the referee’s notebook on Sunday.
Back Kalvin Phillips to be shown a card at 19/10 with Spreadex
