West Ham party boat crashes into Hammersmith Bridge before seeing team thrashed 5-0

West Ham fans were left shocked when they heard the loud noise of their party boat crashing into a bridge on their way to a football game.

Football fans piled onto the boat which was due to take them to the West Ham v Fulham Premier League game at Craven Cottage yesterday.

West Ham was playing Fulham away at 3pm yesterday and some fans decided to travel in style to support their team at the West London football ground.

But disaster struck when their boat, which was making the journey along the Thames from East to West London, smashed into Hammersmith Bridge.

Jumping on a boat to get to the match has been a tradition for some West Ham supporters.

And all was going to plan yesterday until the fans on the party boat heard a loud crashing noise.

The boat had smashed into the bridge, bringing both the vessel and the football fans to a standstill ahead of the big match.

Thankfully the football fans were eventually able to get off the boat and make their way to the game.

Greg Jackson, founder of Octopus Energy, witnessed the crash and shared an update on Twitter.

He said: ‘Probably quite stressful trying to get West Ham fans to the game on time… another blow for Hammersmith bridge, but the chants are a bit special… (seems minor damage and hope all ok).’

He also shared a video which shows a packed boat moving down the river, with fans singing ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’.

The boat, which can hold up to 140 passengers and is named the Emerald of London, then smashes into the bridge, causing the singing to stop and forcing pedestrians to stop to see what was going on.

No-one was hurt in the crash.

The boat also managed to get away relatively well, with just some minor damage to it.

In the footage, the boat has to turn around, presumably to find somewhere safe for the passengers to disembark and make alternative arrangements to get to the match at Fulham’s home ground.

It led to a chorus of boos from fans travelling on the boat.

And unfortunately it wasn’t the end of the West Ham fans’ disappointment yesterday as they then had to watch their team lose 5-0 to Fulham.

Fulham’s big win means they’re now only three points behind West Ham in the league.

West Ham is now in ninth while Fulham follows closely in tenth place.
