UFC Vegas 83 video: Tim Elliott puts Sumudaerji to sleep with nasty arm-triangle choke submission

Tim Elliott had no time to prepare for his short notice fight at UFC Vegas 83 but he still pulled off an impressive win with a first-round submission over Sumudaerji.

The veteran flyweight took the fight just days ago but looked like he was ready for war as he came out with his unorthodox striking style before dragging his opponent to the ground. It didn’t take long for Elliott to advance his position and lock on the arm-triangle choke, which got so tight that Sumudaerji spit up blood just before he fell unconscious as the referee rushed in to stop the fight.

The end came at 4:02 in the first round.

“I’m never really satisfied,” Elliott said about his performance. “There’s things I want to do that I’ve never got to do in my career. There’s no real planning. I’ve still got a long way to go in this sport. I’m just glad I’ve got a new contract.”

As soon as the action got started, Elliot came out with a rolling kick followed by some interesting stance switches as he kept Sumudaerji off balance. In the clinch, Elliott actually unloaded a huge elbow that blasted Sumudaerjii prior to a takedown midway through the opening round.

From there, Elliott displayed his grappling dominance as he shredded his opponent’s defense and set up the arm-triangle choke submission. Once Elliott got in position, he locked onto the choke and Sumudaerji tried desperately to break free with a grimace on his face showing the effectiveness of the submission.

A second later, Sumudaerji split blood out of his mouth just before he fell limp as the referee broke the hold with Elliott jumping up to begin his celebration.

Following a disappointing loss in his last outing against Muhammad Mokaev, Elliott bounced back with his submission win on Saturday with hopes that the UFC will keep him as busy as possible moving forward.

“I can also be the guy they call for short notice at [135 pounds],” Elliott said. “I feel like my title run is kind of over now. All I really have is excitement. The UFC knows they can call me any time, I’ll show up, I’ll make weight and fight hard.”
