A SAVVY mum has revealed the 2p hack she swears by to clean her dirty iron – and it has it looking brand new in minutes.
Katie Cartwright, from Leven, Fife, regularly shares her parenting and home tips on social media.
In a recent clip on TikTok (@home_with_katie), the mum of two showed a huge build up of limescale and burn marks on the bottom of her iron.
The more stubborn dirt that sits on the soleplate, the more risk it could transfer to your clothes when ironing.
To fix it in a flash, Katie showed how she uses a paracetamol tablet to get it sparkling again.
She said: “I thought I’d come on and show you this hack just to see if it worked or not.
“So as you can see my iron is a complete state. It probably shows how much I actually use my iron.”
Katie added: “Before you start, make sure the water tank in your iron is completely empty. I’ve emptied mine into a glass.
“Then you plug it in and set it to the highest setting possible.
“All you need for this is some paracetamol and tweezers
“I do recommend getting heat-proof gloves. If you have them, use them, because it can get really hot.
So I just started off by using circular motions, giving it a good rub
Then I got my old cloth just to wipe all the excess off. You can see how much actually came off.
“I’m really impressed with how clean it’s got it. Definitely recommend it.”
With a 16-pack of paracetamol costing just 39p in Aldi, the hack works out at 2p a go.
