Three Sacred Heart students, Uber driver remain in critical condition following crash
Three Sacred Heart University students and an Uber driver remain in critical condition following Friday’s collision near campus, police said Monday.
Officers responded to the serious crash at about 12:04 a.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a multi-car crash on Jefferson Street near Sacred Heart University’s Martire building, according to the Fairfield Police Department.
A preliminary investigation showed a 2018 Audi being driven by a male Sacred Heart student was heading west on Jefferson Street when the driver lost control around a corner and collided with a 2021 Toyota Corolla being operated by an Uber driver carrying four female Sacred Heart students, according to police. The Audi ended up on its roof following the collision, police said.
All six people were hospitalized. Fairfield police said two of the victims, the Audi driver and one of the female students, were admitted to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. The Audi driver was listed in critical condition as of Monday afternoon, police said in an update. The female student was in critical but stable condition as of Monday, according to police.
The four other victims were transported to Bridgeport Hospital. As of Monday afternoon, the Uber driver was listed in critical but stable condition, a female student was also in critical but stable condition and the other two female students were discharged, police said.
