‘Smile, Pinki’, says admin after eviction notice row
Pinki Sonkar, the main character of the Oscar-winning documentary "Smile Pinki," may have to vacate her house as the forest department claims she and other villagers have encroached on forest land. Pinki, who underwent corrective surgery for a cleft lip, questions why she was given the house by the local administration years ago. The district magistrate assures that the villagers will not be forced to vacate the land and alternative arrangements will be made if necessary. The forest department is currently investigating whether the land belongs to them.
