‘Survivor 45’ preview: Janani ‘J. Maya’ Krishnan-Jha would ‘love to make some friends — why not?’ [WATCH]
“Survivor 45” contestant Janani “J. Maya” Krishnan-Jha is keenly aware of the adage “I’m not here to make friends,” but openly admits for herself that she’d “love to make some friends” because “why not?” The 24-year-old singer from Los Angeles “just started living” for herself and is ready to take risks in the game. Watch their full CBS interview below.
J. Maya sees herself as a risk taker because she passed up the opportunity to attend Harvard Law School in order to “pursue [her] dreams of being an artist.” She says that “a lot of people call [her] music nerd pop,” but it’s only because she “writes about the stuff [she’s] interested in.” Those interests include “crossword puzzles, Greek mythology and literature.” She calls it “surreal” to have “millions of people” listening to her music.

About her choice to pass up admission to Harvard, J. Maya says that it was a choice to “start living for [herself]. Harvard Law School was the pressure that [she] felt from [her] community and [her] family.” Making that decision showed that she can take risks and so coming to “Survivor” is about finding out if she can “apply those lessons to this game.”
Don’t miss J. Maya compete as an original member of the Reba tribe sporting this season’s red buff when “Survivor 45” premieres on Wednesday, September 27. The new season features 18 new players divided into three tribes: Belo, Lulu and Reba. Do you think J. Maya will be the newest champion?
