New footage shows how witnesses tried to intervene in XL Bully dog attack on 11-year-old girl
Newly released video shows the shocking extent of carnage during an XL Bully dog attack that left three people injured in Birmingham.
West Midlands Police say they are continuing to investigate the incident, which lasted roughly two minutes and took place at a Texaco petrol station in the Bordesley Green area on Saturday afternoon.
CCTV footage from the station shows several men attempting to fend off and subdue a crossbreed Bully XL/Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy.
It followed after the animal chased an 11-year-old girl, who sustained injuries to her shoulder and forearms.
The dog was then restrained by its owner but broke free again shortly after.
In the video, one of the men is seen to slip and fall to the floor before the dog bites at his leg and shoulder.
Others then rush to help the man, kicking and using a shovel, broom, sticks and even a gas hose to beat the animal back.
Local authorities say the girl was subsequently treated at hospital and is now recovering at home.
A 20-year-old man was also treated for bites to his shoulder and forearm, as well as cuts and bruises from being dragged across the garage forecourt.
A second man later presented himself for treatment with similar injuries.
Police say the dog’s owner is also currently at hospital. They will be speaking with him in due course.
Meanwhile, the dog itself was seized and taken to a vet, where it was apparentlyfound to be suffering from heat exhaustion.
It has since been moved to a secure kennel, where the dog unit will consider further action.
West Midlands Police said in a statement: ‘This was an alarming and shocking incident on a busy road in high temperatures and members of the public showed immense courage in tackling such a ferocious dog.
‘We are taking statements from the victims and witnesses and will have increased patrols in the area for anyone who would like to speak to us.’
