ITV drama with stellar cast axed after just one series
AN ITV drama with a stellar cast has been axed after just one series on screens.
A second series of The Ipcress File won’t be happening, despite ITV apparently wanting to commission it.
The series is an adaption of Len Deighton’s bestseller and aired last year on ITV1.
Website TVZone reports that ITV wanted another instalment but the cast were too busy with other commitments.
A spokesperson for the broadcaster said: “Sadly, we haven’t been able to progress a second series of The Ipcress File.”
The Ipcress File is based on the story of Harry Palmer played by Peaky Blinders star Joe Cole, a British army sergeant stationed in Berlin in 1963.
His significant role brings him into contact with everyone who matters – until the law catches up with him and his actions land him in a military prison back in England for eight years.
However, Harry’s impressive network captures the interest of British intelligence, who have a proposal for him to avoid jail time.
Harry must become a spy and his first assignment is The Ipcress File.
The discrete mission takes Harry from swinging London to the Berlin Wall and Beirut, as he uses his connections to try and solve the case of a kidnapped British nuclear scientist.
The drama also stars Lucy Boynton, Tom Hollander and Ashley Thomas in scenes split between Berlin and London during the Cold War in the 1960s.
Meanwhile, during the first series, viewers had spotted a huge blunder in one episode.
It prompted viewers to take to social media to point out the glaring mistake.
