Sophie Mae
Sir David Jason became a father at the age of 61 when his then-girlfriend Gill Hinchcliffe gave birth to a baby girl.
Sophie Mae was born in Buckinghamshire in February 2001.
The proud parents then got married in 2005.
The couple met when Sir David was working on ITV’s A Touch of Frost, where Gill was working as a production assistant.
“I first set eyes on Gill, a floor assistant at [a TV studio] in Leeds, when she was sent to meet me in the studio car park,” he told the Guardian.
Abi Harris
In March 2023 it was revealed that Sir David had a daughter who he never knew about called Abi Harris.
Speaking about finding out Sir David was her father, she told The Mirror: “In discovering my father’s identity, I am starting to piece together my own.
“Of course, I am tickled pink and incredibly proud but, frequently, completely overwhelmed with sorrow for the years we have lost.
“After a measured start, now I hope we can consciously make time to see each other more often, so that I can master the art of being the best big sister and build a meaningful father-daughter relationship in its truest sense.”
Abi was born in 1970 after her mum Jennifer Hill had a romance with Sir David when they were performing in Dylan Thomas’s play Under Milk Wood at London’s May Fair theatre.
Until he died in 1996, she always thought her dad was her mother’s late husband Geoffrey Davion.
But after taking a paternity test in 2022, it was revealed that Sir David was her father.
What has David Jason said about children?
David is notoriously private when it comes to his personal life.
However, when the news emerged that Abi was his daughter he spoke to The Mirror about her.
He told the publication: “To say it was a surprise to find out I had a daughter from years ago is an understatement.
“However, on settling with the news, I am delighted that I am now able to get to know Abi and so we meet up when we can.
“My wife, Gill, and daughter, Sophie, have been very supportive and understanding and have embraced Abi and welcomed her and her young son into her now wider family.”
