Iran’s New Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Injured in Attacks, Reuters Says
An Iranian official told Reuters that Iran’s newly appointed leader Mojtaba Khamenei has been superficially wounded but continues to carry out his responsibilities.
Reuters reported on Wednesday, March 11, that the information emerged after Iranian state media referred to him as a “war casualty,” fueling speculation about his condition.
According to the report, numerous rumors have circulated claiming that he was injured during recent attacks carried out by Israel and the United States.
Since his selection as Iran’s leader by the Assembly of Experts on Sunday, Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public or issued any public statement.
He is widely known as a figure close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and became the leading candidate for Iran’s leadership after his father Ali Khamenei was killed in the first wave of strikes on February 28.
The reported strikes were part of escalating tensions between Iran and its regional adversaries, with Israel and the United States targeting several military and nuclear-related facilities across the country.
The death of Ali Khamenei during the initial wave of attacks marked a dramatic turning point in Iran’s political landscape and triggered a swift leadership transition.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that the new leader’s mother, sister, and wife were also killed in the initial strikes, highlighting the heavy personal toll of the ongoing conflict.
