Secretary for Labour Mnthambala Reaffirms Malawi’s Commitment to Regional Skills Development
Secretary for Labour, Nwazi Mnthambala, has reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to promoting technical skills development and strengthening cooperation within the Southern African region.
Speaking in Lilongwe during the closing ceremony of a two-week Training of Trainers programme in cold chain equipment repair and maintenance at Lilongwe Technical College, Mnthambala said the initiative reflects Malawi’s growing capacity to provide specialised training beyond its borders.
“This training demonstrates that Lilongwe Technical College, as a centre of excellence, is well equipped to offer world-class training within the region,” said Mnthambala.
The programme was attended by six officials from the Botswana Ministry of Health, who have now qualified as master trainers.
Mnthambala said the initiative goes beyond technical skills development.
“This programme was designed not only to enhance technical skills but also to strengthen regional cooperation between Malawi and Botswana under SADC,” she said.
She expressed confidence in the impact the training will have in Botswana.
“As master trainers, the six participants are now equipped to make a lasting impact in their communities back home,” added Mnthambala.
The training focused on cold chain equipment repair and maintenance to help improve vaccine storage systems and reduce equipment breakdowns.
