Gray Provides Injury Update Ahead Of Trip To Celtic
Hibernian Head Coach David Gray provided a positive squad update ahead of our trip to Celtic Park, with several players nearing a return to play.
The Hibees have had to deal with several absentees through injury or illness in recent weeks, but Gray admits the squad is in a much healthier position now after a full week of training in the lead up to this weekend’s fixture.
Munashe Garananga missed our 2-0 victory over St Mirren after picking up a knock against Hearts, but is back and available for selection, with Joe Newell also returning to training.
“In terms of team news, ‘Gara’ missed the last game with his ankle – it just came too soon for him – but he’s trained all week with no reaction, which is really positive", Gray told Hibs TV.
“Joe Newell has part-trained and we expect him to be fully training by the end of the week.
“(Against St Mirren) Josh Campbell returned to the squad, Jamie McGrath and Warren O’Hora have had good minutes after injury, and Nicky Cadden got 90 minutes under his belt as well, which definitely puts us in a healthier position.”
There is also some positive news for Chris Cadden (calf), Jordan Obita (hamstring) and Grant Hanley (hamstring), who are all nearing a return to training after their respective injuries.
“We expect Chris Cadden to be back involved at the start of next week. Grant Hanley isn’t too far away, and neither is Jordan Obita. The only one a bit further behind is Josh Mulligan.
“Those are big players who’ve been important for us all season, but it shows the strength and depth of the squad and that we’re moving in the right direction. The big thing now is to pick up as many points as we can between now and the end of the season.”
