Topeka church organization working to alleviate hunger for kids

TOPEKA (KSNT) - An organization comprised of local Christian churches will hold an event to help feed kids while school isn't in session.

From 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 4, Topeka North Outreach will be holding an event to help provide food and snacks to over 700 students at 14 area schools and community centers. Topeka North Outreach is partnering with Operation Backpack, a national initiative that provided over 55,00 backpacks to kids in need in 2025.

"Food prices are increasing," Topeka North Outreach wrote on its website. "Donations are down. Grant awards are uncertain. We need your help to continue this outreach. It takes a village!"

The program provides a two-day supply of food and kids snacks that are easy to prepare. The program prioritizes parents who receive free or reduced-price lunches, single parents, working parents, adoptive parents, grandparent parents or disabled parents.

Topeka North Outreach said attendees should park at the back of the Indian Creek Elementary School building, located at 4303 NE Indian Creek Rd.
