NJ Transit warns of possible disruptions due to approaching storm
NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – The Garden State is expected to see heavy rain, strong winds, and the possibility of flooding, according to the National Weather Service. NJ Transit is advising travelers to stay updated on service conditions in case of disruptions or suspensions.
New Jersey has declared a state of emergency beginning Saturday at 10 p.m.
Winds may reach up to 55 miles per hour, with widespread rainfall amounts potentially reaching up to three inches in some areas, which could lead to flooding in urban areas, according to the NWS.
NJ Transit travelers are advised to travel only if absolutely necessary.
“All NJ TRANSIT services will continue operating on regular schedules for as long as weather and road conditions safely allow,’ read a press release from the transportation agency. “For the safety of our customers and employees, weather conditions may require temporary service suspensions. Should that occur, NJ TRANSIT will provide as much advance notice as possible.”
NJ Transit’s Emergency Operations Center and Office of Emergency Management will monitor the storm. Riders are advised to use caution around bus stops and train stations due to slippery conditions.
Customers should also allow extra travel time, as delays and cancellations are possible because of the storm’s impact, according to NJ Transit.
