OHSWEKEN, Ont. (September 13, 2025) – Nitro 54, Sit ‘N’ Bull Tires, and Arrow Express presented the 21st Running of the Northern Sprint Car Nationals at Ohsweken Speedway on Saturday; Nick Sheridan took the $30,000 A-Main win for the 360 Sprint Cars, while Josh Verne Jr won in the Crate Sprint division.
Northern Sprint Car Nationals 360 Sprint Cars
2025 Ohsweken Speedway 360 Champion Dylan Westbrook and Texas visitor Sam Hafertepe Jr. earned front row starting positions for the 35 lap Northern Sprint Car Nationals 360 Sprint Car A-Main. Westbrook took the early lead in the opening laps. Eric Gledhill and Glenn Styres suffered spins on lap three and brought out the only caution flag of the race. Westbrook managed the restart with ease as he set a torrid pace, catching slower traffic by lap nine with a 1.9 second lead over Matt Farnham.
Nick Sheridan eventually tracked down and passed Farnham for second, and used the outside line to close in on Westbrook as the laps ticked down. With time running out, Sheridan made his pass for the lead and eventual win with just five laps left to go. Westbrook then fell into the clutches of eighth row starter Ryan Turner, who was on the hunt for a fourth Nationals win. It was Sheridan’s night though, as he claimed the highly coveted $30,000 crown jewel victory by a margin of 1.9 seconds.
Turner and Westbrook claimed the final two podium positions respectively. Finishing next were DJ Christie in fourth, Farnham fifth, Hafertepe sixth, Josh Hansen seventh, Jordan Thomas eighth, Todd Hoddick ninth, and Darren Dryden tenth. Sheridan set a new event record in time trials earlier in the evening, with a lap of 13.283 seconds.
Strickland’s Crate Sprint Cars
It was a champion front row lock out as current champion Jacob Dykstra and 2024 champion Brett Stratford brought the field to the green flag for the 20 lap Crate Sprint Car A-Main. Dykstra set the pace, leading over Stratford for the opening laps. Adam Turner brought out the first caution flag of the race on lap six as he came to a stop on the front stretch. The restart gave Stratford a shot of getting ahead of the hard-defending Dykstra, but to no avail.
With the end of the race approaching, Dykstra and Stratford banged wheels several times. With one lap left to go, Stratford made a daring attempt to pass Dykstra on the exit of turn two. The attempt proved to be futile though, as Stratford drove up and over Dykstra, launching himself into the air and rolling over. Dykstra spun as a result of the contact, but kept going until the red flag appeared. Stratford’s car was too heavily damaged to continue, while officials moved Dykstra to the rear of the field as an involved car. Both drivers were unharmed, but furious with each other.
A green-white-checkered finish would determine the winner when the race restarted, and Steve Murdock led the field to the green. Josh Verne Jr., comfortably running in the top five throughout the race, got a better launch over Murdock for the lead on the restart. Verne drove through the last four turns to pick up his first victory at Ohsweken after a five hour trip from upstate New York. Murdock finished in second, with Quebec racer Bruno Richard finding the final podium position. Holly Porter finished in fourth, while visitor Andrew Hennessy rounded out the top five.
