Trump: 'Israel and Iran came to me’ – says world is the 'real winner'
President Donald Trump on Monday night released a sweeping new statement on Truth Social where he claimed credit for brokering peace between Iran and Israel – and took a victory lap for his role – following a weekend of U.S.-led strikes and escalating tensions.
“Israel & Iran came to me, almost simultaneously, and said, ‘PEACE!’ I knew the time was NOW,” Trump told his followers Monday. “The World, and the Middle East, are the real WINNERS! Both Nations will see tremendous LOVE, PEACE, AND PROSPERITY in their futures.”
Trump added: “They have so much to gain, and yet, so much to lose if they stray from the road of RIGHTEOUSNESS & TRUTH. The future for Israel & Iran is UNLIMITED, & filled with great PROMISE. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!”
The post comes hours after Trump, in an exclusive phone interview Monday night, declared the Iran-Israel conflict completely over and said the ceasefire deal he claimed he put together would last “forever.” Over the weekend, Trump ordered a series of U.S. strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities.
But Trump’s messaging has already grown more complicated. While declaring peace, he has also shifted toward publicly supporting the possibility of regime change in Iran, a position that directly contradicts statements made by own vice president’s statements.
