Tottenham agree deal for second signing of transfer window under Thomas Frank
Tottenham have struck a deal to bring in a highly-rated Japanese centre-back, with reports suggesting a £5m agreement is already in place for 20-year-old Kota Takai.
So far, since the start of the summer window, Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of two players, who are not new additions to the squad, as they were loan signings made permanent.
Kevin Danso joined permanently this summer after Tottenham completed their £21m obligation for the centre-back from RC Lens – a clause inserted in his initial winter loan move.
Mathys Tel became the first new signing of the Thomas Frank era, with the Frenchman completing a £30m move from Bayern Munich, signing a long-term six-year deal with Tottenham.
Tottenham agree £5m deal for Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale
Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer dealings have not stopped there, as new reports now state that the Lilywhites have completed their third signing of the window.
This latest update comes from Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold of Football London, who reports that Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Kota Takai from J1 League side Kawasaki Frontale.
According to the journalist, a £5m deal has been reached between Tottenham and Kawasaki Frontale for the 20-year-old Japan international centre-back, who is expected to be part of the first team squad at the N17 club.
Gold’s post on X reads: “Spurs have agreed a £5m deal for 20-year-old Japan international centre-back Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale. He is expected to be part of the first team squad.”
Kota Takai deal to Tottenham includes a sell-on clause
Of course, Tottenham themselves are yet to confirm this signing on their official channels, but an official announcement could be expected soon.
The Japan international is reported to have signed a five-year contract with Tottenham, and the deal is said to include an option for a further year, along with a 10% sell-on clause.
The 20-year-old will now join the likes of Luka Vuskovic, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Kevin Danso, Ben Davies, Radu Dragusin and Ashley Phillips as part of the club’s core of centre-backs, and is expected to become Thomas Frank’s second signing of the window.
