'You just interrupted me!' CNN host snaps as GOP guest dances around questions
CNN's John Berman got into a testy exchange with Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) after the lawmaker skirted his question on regime change in Iran.
The question came in the wake of President Donald Trump's hint that he supported ousting Iran's supreme leader now that the U.S. has entered into the fray with Israel.
"It’s not politically correct to use the term, 'Regime Change,' but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change???" Trump posted on his Truth Social platform Sunday.
When Berman asked whether the congressman supported "U.S. military action to accomplish regime change," Mills at first answered, "No, I don't think that the U.S. should be nation-building like George W. Bush times."
Berman pushed back, "Again, I'm asking specifically about regime change. You say, no, you don't support U.S. military action for the purpose of regime change, even airstrikes?"
Mills answered, "That's correct."
Berman then tried to get clarification about his stance regarding Trump's statement, asking, "So, you would not support airstrikes if the goal is now or becomes regime change?"
"The goal for us has never been about regime change. And again, I'll just say it once more —"
Berman interrupted, causing Mills to chide, "You can continue to interrupt or you can let me finish."
"Oh, go ahead congressman," Berman offered, leaving a couple of seconds of dead air before the congressman talked about Trump's desire for a diplomatic solution.
"This has never been about regime change. It's just been about stopping the regime from having nuclear weapon capabilities," Mills stated.
"I was only interrupting because you weren't addressing what I was asking, which was, again, the future of possible military strikes — "
"Oh, I was," Mills interjected. "You just didn't like the answer."
"Well, then, you just interrupted me," Berman shot back.
