The L train could see increased service during rush hour this fall
NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – A and L trains could see increased service starting in the fall, MTA officials said during Monday's board meeting.
The MTA is proposing extra trips L train during the morning and evening rush hours, according to an MTA committee report. It would reduce average wait times between 6:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon wait times would also be reduced on L trains, according to the report.
"On the L line... we are able to add additional trips to boost service at the times of the day that have seen significant post-pandemic ridership growth," NYCT Chief Operating Officer Bernard Jackson said Monday.
On the A train, midday wait times would be reduced during the week with added round trips to Lefferts Boulevard and Rockway Boulevard.
"[This] will also result in more even service throughout the day," Jackson said.
If approved, the proposed schedule changes would begin in November 2025, according to an MTA committee report.
The schedule modifications will cost the MTA $600,000 annually, according to a committee report. Only one additional crew will be needed to accommodate the added L train trips.
"These changes will make service better, more reliable and more efficient for transit riders," Jackson said.
