Thousands lose power across NYC amid extreme heat: Con Ed
NEW YORK (PIX11) – Thousands of people are without power on Monday as extreme heat takes hold of the tri-state area, according to Con Edison's outage map.
Nearly 10,000 people are experiencing an outage in Queens close to the Long Island border.
The affected neighborhoods include Bellaire, Bellerose, Cambria Heights, Floral Park, Glen Oaks, Hollis, Holliswood, Jamaica, Jamaica Hills, Laurelton, Queens Village, Springfield Gardens, St. Albans and South Jamaica, according to Con Edison.
At least 600 Staten Island customers are also without power, Con Edison’s map showed. The utility cited the heat as the cause and some outages aren't expected to be fixed until 9 p.m. on Monday.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s in the Big Apple amid an extreme heat warning issued by the National Weather Service. In combination with the humidity, feel-like temperatures could range between 105 to 109 degrees, according to PIX11 meteorologists.
