Will Gasparino will enter transfer portal after 2 seasons with Texas Longhorns: report
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas centerfielder Will Gasparino will enter the transfer portal.
First reported by Zachary Symm of Orangebloods, Gasparino will leave Austin after two seasons. He's from the Los Angeles area, graduating from Harvard-Westlake High School, and according to Symm, UCLA is the favorite to land the reliable defensive outfielder who has plenty of swing and miss in his offense.
Gasparino hit .247 over two seasons with the Longhorns, one under David Pierce and the other Jim Schlossnagle. His average dipped 10 points from his freshman to his sophomore year, .252 to .242, with a slight increase in his power numbers, .495 slugging percentage to .512.
He reduced his strikeouts and increased his walks year-over-year, but he still averaged more than a strikeout per game. He struck out 63 times in 58 games this season, better than 76 strikeouts in 59 games as a freshman.
He walked more than double in 2025 than he did in 2024, drawing 29 free passes this season compared to 11 in his first year. That helped him improve his on-base percentage by 39 points from .300 to .339.
Defensively, he was great. He made one error in 121 total chances this season with a pair of assists.
From May 1 until the end of the season, June 1 in the Austin regional of the NCAA tournament, Gasparino struggled at the plate, going 7-for-46 for a .152 average with one multi-hit game in the final 15. He had a 13-game hitting streak from March 16 to April 8, which included two series against national champions Louisiana State and Georgia.
Texas finished the season 44-14, winning the Southeastern Conference regular season championship in its first year with a 22-8 mark. However, the Longhorns didn't make it out of the regional round, losing to UTSA twice.
