79-year-old man charged with attempted murder in Opelousas motel shooting
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- A 79-year-old man is accused of attempted murder in connection with a shooting at an Opelousas motel, authorities said.
Leo Demouchet, Sr., 79, of Opelousas, is charged with attempted second degree murder.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the Cardinal Inn Motel in Opelousas on Wednesday.
Deputies found the room vacant, but said a blood trail led them to a mobile home behind a storage facility near the hotel, where deputies found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound to her chest.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
"It was stated by the victim that she and Demouchet had obtained the motel room, a disagreement ensued and Demouchet left the room," Guidroz said. "A short time later, Demouchet returned, an argument started and Demouchet is alleged to have shot the victim in the chest. A quick response by responding deputies likely saved the victim’s life."
Demouchet was booked into the St. Landry Parish jail. Bond details were not released.
