Summer heat peaks in Portland, heat advisory issued for parts of Oregon this weekend
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Summer heat peaks Friday as Portland prepares for some of the hottest temperatures felt so far this year.
High heat will peak around the greater Portland & Vancouver area on Friday afternoon and evening as highs warm into the mid to upper 80s. Locations east of the Cascades will likely warm into the low 90s.
A heat advisory is in place on Saturday for far southeastern Oregon as triple-digit heat builds. The hot and dry conditions will increase the wildfire threat for much of the Pacific Northwest. Avoid burning and be mindful of breezy winds setting up around the gorge Saturday afternoon.
Summer temperatures will become more frequent around Portland as the summer months quickly arrive. Staying hydrated and taking breaks indoors or in the shade while wearing light-colored and loss-fitting clothing is a must for staying safe.
Temperatures will remain above average through the first week of June. Mostly dry skies will remain as rain remains absent through the middle of next week.
