I think it will be too far gone.
By that time it will have gone past the tipping point where you will have wasted so much money if you pull the plug - that you may as well continue.
Nobody would be enough of a effwit to do that, even Farage - and the idea that he has, or ever will have - any credible economic policies, is risable anyway.
Sunk cost fallacy.
The sunk cost fallacy only applies where the current cost to complete exceeds the value of the completed project, but you continue with it because you've already spent so much on it.
The problem under the last government was the opposite - cancelling the cheap bits of HS2 that realise the biggest gains, while sticking with the expensive, minimal gain bits.
I'm not sure fast trains from Mancheter & Leeds to Water Orton would be of great value on their own
