7 killed in crashes over Memorial Day weekend in Kansas
TOPEKA (KSNT) - State troopers worked several deadly crashes and made multiple DUI arrests over the Memorial Day holiday weekend this year.
The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) released its report from the Memorial Day weekend on citations, warnings and arrests. The report encompasses the holiday weekend starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 23 and ending at midnight on Monday, May 26.
State troopers worked four deadly crashes over the weekend that resulted in a total of seven deaths across Kansas. Other statistics from the reporting period are below:
- DUI arrests - 20.
- Speed citations - 502.
- Speed warnings - 420.
- Safety belt citations - 77.
- Safety belt warnings - seven.
- Safety belt teen citations - two.
- Child restraint citations - 14.
- Motorist assists - 590.
