250,000 pounds of beef stew cans recalled nationwide due to wood contamination
TOPEKA (KSNT) — A Georgia food company is recalling more than 250,000 pounds of canned beef stew sold nationwide as they may be contaminated with foreign materials.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDA) announced on May 28 that Hormel Foods Corporation, based out of Georgia, is recalling 256,185 pounds of a 20 oz. canned food product it made. The canned beef stew may be contaminated with foreign materials such as wood.
The FSIS reports the recalled beef stew cans were produced on Feb. 4, 2025 and were labeled "Dinty Moore BEEF STEW" with a best by date of Feb. 2028. The cans have a lot code of "T02045" printed on them and have the establishment number "EST 199G."
Three customers have reported to the FSIS complaints of finding wood in the beef stew cans. No reports of injuries have been made yet in connection to the recalled cans.
The FSIS said it is concerned some people may still have these cans stored in pantries at home. People who did purchase these cans of beef stew are encouraged to either return them or throw them away.
If you have any questions about this recall, you can contact Hormel Foods Corporation at 800-523-4635 or send an email to media@hormel.com. You can also get in touch with the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 or by sending an email to MPHotline@usda.gov.
