The Morning Show returns to a post-truth society in season 4 first look
It’s hard for The Morning Show to be exactly “of the moment,” since it only airs new episodes every two years. Each season is like a period piece from the immediate past (the COVID-19 season, for instance, premiered in late 2021). Such is the case for The Morning Show season four first look—it’s maybe just a little bit behind the times, but nevertheless remains fairly relevant. After all, a lot has happened culturally and politically since last we saw the employees of UBA, some of which we may still be processing ahead of the season premiere September 17 on Apple TV+.
According to a synopsis from Apple, “Season four of The Morning Show opens in spring 2024, almost two years after the events of season three. With the UBA-NBN merger complete, the newsroom must grapple with newfound responsibility, hidden motives, and the elusive nature of truth in a polarized America. In a world rife with deepfakes, conspiracy theories, and corporate cover-ups—who can you trust? And how can you know what’s actually real?”
The Morning Show season four first look gives us a clue what Alex (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley (Reese Witherspoon) are up to, while also introducing some new faces including Marion Cotillard as Celine Dumont, “a savvy operator from a storied European family”; Rebel Ridge‘s Aaron Pierre as Miles, “an acclaimed visual artist who moves through the circles of the New York elite”; A Complete Unknown‘s Boyd Holbrook as Brodie, “a popular and provocative podcaster and talk show host”; The Good Place favorite William Jackson Harper as Ben, “the network’s self-assured and innovative Head of Sports.” Oscar winner Jeremy Irons is set to play Alex’s dad, but he’s also giving a bit of a Jordan Peterson vibe in his first look photo (below), isn’t he?
“We were really lucky that people want to be a part of this show, I have to say. I mean, Marion Cotillard is just gorgeous, and what a kind human being on top of being the talent that she is. And Jeremy Irons—good God, just pinch me,” Aniston recently told People. “We just had a lot of great actors and actresses that came on this year, so it’s going to be fun to watch.” An executive producer as well as star of the series, Aniston teased that the new season is “jam-packed.”
Her co-star Karen Pittman agreed, telling the same outlet that the season is “super juicy” and reflecting on finishing up production just as the 2024 election took place. “There was this real penny drop. It was a sense of deadass, we were sincerely focused on what it meant to be telling a story like we were with an extraordinary candidate, Madame Vice President having not ended up in the White House, so we were really trying to create some strong, serious footing for ourselves as we went. … Knowing what I know about what season four is, it’s gonna be very interesting to see what people feel about it, knowing the political sociopolitical climate.” You can check out The Morning Show season four first look below.
