White Sox Reliever Miguel Castro Out for Season After Knee Injury
White Sox reliever Miguel Castro will miss the remainder of the 2025 season due to a right knee injury sustained Wednesday against the Mets.
The 30-year-old right-hander entered the game in the ninth inning amid light rain at Citi Field. Castro began the inning by striking out Francisco Lindor and then induced a weak grounder from Juan Soto toward the right side of the infield. First baseman Miguel Vargas fielded the ball and threw to Castro, who was covering first base. As Castro secured the second out, he appeared to jam his right foot, slipped, and fell to the ground.
Though Castro managed to get up and take a few cautious steps, he soon needed assistance from a trainer to leave the field. After the game, he was seen in the clubhouse using crutches.
Castro, who previously pitched for the Mets from 2020 to 2021, received a supportive pat on the back from former teammate Brandon Nimmo as he was helped off. Bryce Wilson replaced Castro, allowing an RBI double to Pete Alonso and a walk before striking out Mark Vientos to end the game.
The White Sox acquired Castro from the Astros on May 15th in exchange for cash considerations. In his two weeks with Chicago, he has posted a 7.50 ERA across six appearances.
Castro began the 2025 season with Houston’s Triple-A affiliate after signing a minor league deal in the offseason. He performed well there, recording a 2.29 ERA over 19 innings. The White Sox front office took a chance on him, hoping to strengthen a bullpen that has surrendered the most blown leads in Major League Baseball this season.
