Suspect in fatal southeast Columbus shooting over Memorial Weekend arrested
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – One person has been arrested in connection with a southeast Columbus shooting that killed a man over the weekend.
According to court records, Talen Trago, 20, was arrested Wednesday and charged in the murder of 22-year-old Trayven Thompson, who was gunned down Sunday afternoon in the Columbus neighborhood of Independence Village, northwest of Pickerington.
Officers arrived at the Amesbury Apartments on Harshman Drive at 2:29 p.m. and found Thompson at the scene, along with at least two shell casings nearby. He was pronounced dead less than 10 minutes later.
A witness told police that they heard shots fired and saw one person fleeing the area on foot. Another witness told police they saw a man run into a residence less than a block away from the shooting. For a previous report on this story view the video player above.
Police said a third witness told homicide detectives that he was on the phone with an acquaintance of the suspect and heard the alleged suspect enter her vehicle and told her to drive off because he had just shot someone.
On Thursday, Trago was issued a $1 million bond and ordered to next appear in court for a preliminary hearing on June 6.
