North Austin gas station open after roof collapses during storm
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A gas station in north Austin was one of countless structures to receive damage from severe weather that rolled through Central Texas Wednesday evening.
The roof of the Exxon-Shell gas station, located at 7510 N. MoPac Expy., collapsed when a severe thunderstorm ripped through the northern part of the Austin metro area.
The Austin Fire Department responded to the collapse shortly before 7 p.m., according to an X post from AFD. The post said that a caller reported "the gas station pumps' roof has collapsed and is on a car."
There are covered pumps on both sides of the gas station. The other side did not receive damage. It's unclear if anyone was injured, but AFD did say in a follow-up post on X that everyone was able to get out of the vehicles under the collapsed roof.
According to KXAN meteorologists, wind speeds reached up to 77 mph at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Wednesday evening.
The gas station was back open early Thursday morning, according to KXAN crews on the scene. KXAN has reached out to the corporate owners of the gas station, and we will update this story if we receive a response.
